Christmas Hills House

The client engaged John Henry Architects to design a unique house that is environmentally friendly in a high bushfire risk area.

The design concept was derived from the client’s brief, the nature of the site and the need for it to respond to the environmental concerns in terms of the steep slope of the site, while still respecting the nature surrounding.

The floor follows the contours of the site, generating a long narrow building, capturing views to the natural bush from every part of the house. A roof top deck provides view back to Melbourne and the Yarra Valley.

This modest sized house enjoys a space of a larger sized house, while appreciating the amazing bush that surrounds it.
